I was born in Durand, Michigan, a small railroad town, into a railroad family. I love history, so it is no surprise that I have a BA in history from the University of Michigan. Since I did not want to teach, I graduated from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, the first in my family to have a juris doctorate. After law clerking for a Circuit Court, I joined a large law practice in Saginaw for many years. I never thought I wanted to be my own boss, but in 2009, I bought my practice in West Branch to focus on the one area of law that I truly enjoy, Social Security Disability.
Ever since, I have been helping people deal with disabilities and working to help them obtain Social Security benefits. But in my free time, I am a founder and secretary for a nonprofit organization that is working with my hometown, Durand, to raise funds and build a park along the rail in Durand to honor the men and women of the railroad industry. Whenever I hear a train whistle, it always reminds me of home.
